Welcome to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
Graduate and Faculty Ministry (GFM)
at Indiana University Bloomington or IUGFM

IUGFM ( http://iugfm.org ) focuses on American and International graduate students, faculty, researchers, and all who are interested in higher education. Our group discussions center on being a Christian academic.  We meet on  Thursdays, 12:00 - 12:30 p.m.  for fellowship and connecting with new graduate and professional students and from 12:30 -1:00 p.m we are in conversational PRAYER together.  During the academic year we meet in the Tree Suites area on the Mezzanine level of the Indiana Memorial Union almost always in the Charter Room.  Send Joe an email (see below) to get on our 'gentle reminder' weekly email for more info. From 1:15 -1:50 or 2pm we have a reading and discussion group in a book of the bible (most recently Romans), also in the same location.  There is consideration currently for a book discussion in "Who's Afraid of Postmodernism" that may liftoff for students for whom Wednesdays at lunch break work better than Thursdays.  Still others have been discussing "Two Tasks of the Christian Scholar".   Email Joe for more information.

Community/Fellowship/Witness & Hospitality Monthly Dinners:  We have graduate students and faculty willing to host a winsome fellowship dinner in homes off campus monthly for September, October, November, and December.  Second semester we had hosts for January through May.  These IUGFH (Indiana University Graduate and Faculty Hospitality) dinners are a great opportunity to see what people read when not cramming, their home contexts and significant others/families, enjoy good food, and less formal fellowship, and fun.  Bookmark this web and get on the 'gentle reminder' email list for more information and details.  All grad students, professional students, faculty, administrators, and visiting scholars are welcome!

COME AND MEET SOME NEW FRIENDS.
And yes, there is an open space for your unique influence.

We also get together with students from other departmental Christian fellowships (Law, Music, MBA, etc) for combined events periodically.  Fall semester 2005, Dr. Walter Bradley spoke on  "Scientific Evidence for the Existence of an Intelligent Creator."  Click for a copy of the attractive promotional pdf flier we used and here for pictures from the event itself.  This was unusually large but we've done events with MBA, Music, and Law fellowships utilizing excellent local resource people.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at I.U. has a Greek-System Fellowship and the Multi-ethnic Undergraduate IVCF Chapter. Our GFM staff Joe Whitchurch is on campus on Thursdays during the academic semester for prayer support, networking, mentoring, and sharing of resources, academic society, conferences & ministry encouragements.  Please contact the 2008 - 2009 academic-year student leadership; Scott Lamanna, Blake Puckett, Matthew Kaul, or Joe Whitchurch if you would like more information on IUGFM (sometimes still called Graduate IVCF).

IU Graduate and Faculty Ministry staff, Joe Whitchurch is also involved in a joint ministry endeavor with Faculty Commons staff colleague Matt Bazemore in establishing a faculty ministry called "LET" which reminds of of the I.U. motto "Lux et Veritas" Light and Truth.  Late in the Spring semester 2008 the academic society 'LeT' had its inauguration with a faculty dinner in the Tudor Room, invitation for partnered leadership of which several faculty responded, sharing of resources about faculty conferences wonderful fellowship and food and each person received a complimentary copy of the book "The Two Tasks of the Christian Scholar'.  It appears that Lux et Veritas is off to a great start.  For more information email jbw7@comcast.net to find out about the LET ning group etc.
